State of Punjab has made rapid strides in Mobile Governance by completing the delivery of 15 Crore informatory and Awareness messages to citizens and also by developing and launching of 17 citizen centric mobile applications.

State has already won prestigious Prime Minister Award for Best Governance and State’s e-District project has been rated number one project in the Country amongst all States.

An essential part of e-governance is mobile-governance which leverages mobile technology for extending the reach of e-governance and increasing availability of government services and information – “anytime, anywhere”.

Punjab has prepared & launched 17 mobile Apps.enterprise-mobility-and-m-governance

Departments have sent more than 15 crore transactional as well as awareness SMS till date.

Health department has launched SMS campaigns on World Population Day (11 July), Dengue Awareness SMS (8 July), International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (26 June) and Mukh Mantri Punjab Hepatitis C Relief Fund to increase awareness among citizen of Punjab.

Department of Governance Reforms, which is implementing e-Governance Projects like e-District, State Service Delivery Gateway (SSDG), Elections, Sewa Kendras etc, has sent 7.5 crore SMSes primarily for giving information to citizens about status of their applications in Suwidha Centers or in other service delivery applications.

Department of Health has sent 5 crore SMSes for awareness of citizens on various health related initiatives.

Department of Food & Civil Supplies has sent 1.68 crore SMSes. Department of Police and School Education has sent 89 lakhs and 69 lakhs SMSes respectively.

With the widespread usage of Smart Phones, State has also focused on developing Mobile Applications of various initiatives of the State. 17 Mobileapplications focusing on citizen centric Governance have been developed by the State.

Department of Governance Reforms has already signed agreement to develop mobile applications with C-DAC Chandigarh, a premier research and software development center of Government of India.

Hospital Tracker application which can be used to find out the list of nearby hospitals/ clinics and see their contact details, distance from their present location and user ratings.

ImSafe’ apps is developed to make distress alerts in the time of need. One can configure upto two contacts amongst their family and friends to whom the alerts can be sent. The app remains active in the notification bar and alerts in the form of SMS can be sent to the configured contacts, along with the geographical location, at a single click.

Apnatax mobile application of Department of Excise and Taxation allows the citizens to upload various bills/transactions made by the citizens on this application.

Education Department’s ePunjab application is developed for district and state level officers only. They are provided with username and password to access the telephone directory of around 1.23 lac staff members working in schools and offices of department of school education. The registered users can view the mobile numbers of staff and can dial a number/ SMS directly from the mobile application. The user can search the staff members even by name or their location of service.

With PSPCL billing application, citizens can register complaints related to supply, billing etc

Citizens can also View/ Pay electricity bills. PUDA’s mSewa Application helps in Quick lookup of property information for PUDA, GMADA, BDA, JDA, ADA ,PDA authorities.

In Punjab Tourism application, citizens can see all the tourist destination in Punjab also can see the visitor experience about the places and can see the destination on map. You can also mark favorite the destination to see the information frequently. This app also provide the information of stay details- hotel restaurants etc, tour operator ,tourism offices , fast facts, events and gallery information related to particular destination. Also the gallery of all Punjab destination.

Several other apps are under preparation. For development of mobile apps a MoU has been signed with CDAC, Mohali. The mobile apps can be downloaded from Mobile Seva Appstore or from the Google Playstore.

As a result of dedicated efforts of the State, the reach of mobile governance has increased and improved Punjab’s rank to 6th rank in Push SMS amongst all states of India within a span of less than three months. At the pace in which Punjab is moving, it is emerging as the front-runner in citizen centric e-Governance.


Punjab government is all set to provide essential amenities in villages at par with urban areas. Working in this direction 200 villages of the state are being developed as smart villages and the work would be completed by the end of fiscal year 2016-17.

Smart-Villages-Makes-a-Smart-WorldEnvisioning the villages of state as unemployment, illiteracy and poverty free units, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal has also announced to felicitate three top performing sarpanches of villages, working towards achieving this goal, in a state level function on Independence Day. The Chief Minister said that the holistic growth of villages was the need of hour to give further impetus to all round development of state. The Chief Minister said that as majority of population of state live in villages so the state government was committed to ensure unprecedented development there. He said that state government was committed to provide facilities at par with cities.

Under this visionary approach of the Chief Minister, 200 smart villages would be equipped with facilities like 4G connectivity, solar street lights, sewa kendars, sewerage and drainage facilities, bank branch and model school etc.

State government is working to fill the gaps in physical infrastructure in rural areas by creating school buildings, health dispensaries, Dharamshalas, clean drinking water, sports facilities etc.

Punjab government is working on the project to provide 24 hour power supply to 100 percent rural population. 8263 Deras and Dhanis   had already been identified, which are soon to be connected with 24 hours Urban Pattern Supply (UPS).

In a major relief to small and medium farmers who do not possess any tubewell connections, government has initiated scheme to provide tubewell connections on priority to farmers who have applied for the same and have land holdings below 2.5 acre. Till date 1.65 lac tubewell connections had been provided to various categories of AP applicants.

Under National Rural Livelihood Mission, the state government will ensure adequate coverage of vulnerable sections of the society. Moreover, in a bid to provide facilities to self-help groups, a pilot project has been started in 14 blocks of seven districts of the state.
